Template Talk:Eras of the Halakha

To be used where?

I notice that this template is being placed in many articles that are not included in the template, but it does not associate any dates with these eras. My guess is that anyone who already knows the approximate dates for each of these eras would not need the template as a navigation aid. - Jmabel | Talk 01:38, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

Furthermore, if this is to be heavily used in articles on rabbis, it should provide some means to indicate which era corresponds to the person who is the subject of the article. - Jmabel | Talk 01:41, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

I have been putting the template in any article that makes reference to one of the terms in the template. That way, when someone sees "So-and-so was a third generation amora," they will not be left scratching their head in perplexity. I agree however, the template could provide some more information about the time frames involved. I have another question however: should there not technically be an era of "Soferim" prior to the "Zugot"? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dfass (talk o contribs) 28 January 2007.

Is there any way... ?

When a WP template is used on a page, the title of the page is bolded on the template. So, for example, when this template appears at Tannaim, the word "Tannaim" is shown in bold.

Is there any way to make the word "Tannaim" appear in bold when the template is used in articles about individual tannaim, such as Yochanan ben Zakai or Gamaliel? I think it would make those articles a little more reader-friendly by highlighting which Rabbinic era the subject of the article belonged to.

I don't know much about how templates work. I'm guessing that with proper coding, this might be achievable with a switch like {{Eras of the Halakha|T}} or {{Eras of the Halakha|Tannaim}}.

Anyway, this was just a thought. -- Malik Shabazz (Talk | contribs) 03:12, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
