Please join the Asian Columbia Alumni Association (ACAA) and the Columbia Law School Alumni Association for the Inaugural Hong Yen Chang Reception honoring Kathy Hirata Chin ‘80, partner at Crowell & Moring LLP. This event is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the contributions of Asian-Americans to the legal profession.
Hong Yen Chang, Columbia Law School Class of 1886, was the first Chinese-American attorney in the United States. A symbol of the aspirations of Asian-Americans, he was the first person posthumously admitted to the California Bar in 2015. He had been improperly denied admission in 1890 because of the Chinese Exclusion Laws.
This event recognizes the achievements of a remarkable man, who in spite of the prejudice of his day, was a lawyer, banker, educator and diplomat. As members of the Columbia University community, we all can take pride in our common heritage and humanity.
