By the British group Ace, "How Long" became their best known and only hit song reaching #3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Top 100 chart and in Canada in 1974. It was from their Five-A-Side album. Written by lead singer Paul Carrack, who said the song is about another band who was "trying to nick our bass player" Terry Comer who was actually secretly working with other bands. Comer did return in time for the original recording of this song which is considered to have one of the best bass lines ever. "How Long was labeled as one of the best songs of the 70's. Enjoying moderate success in the 1970's, Ace members were assembled from various other professional bands in 1972. The group disbanded in 1977. Later, Carrack did a solo "How Long" which became a UK Top 40 hit again in 1996.
