Playing career

Mayfield played two seasons with the Youngstown Phantoms of the United States Hockey League (USHL) from 2009-2011 and was selected to the 2010-11 USHL Eastern Conference All-Star team.[1] Mayfield committed to play for the University of Denver Pioneers which compete in the WCHA.[2] He was selected 34th overall by the New York Islanders in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, and on April 5, 2013, agreed to terms on a 3-year entry-level contract with the team.[3]

On April 6, 2014, Mayfield made his NHL debut with the Islanders in a 4-0 loss against the Columbus Blue Jackets.[4][5] On April 9, 2016, Mayfield scored his first NHL goal in a 4-3 overtime loss against the Buffalo Sabres.[6]

Mayfield received his first recall of the 2016-17 season on November 14, 2016, after an injury to defenseman Dennis Seidenberg.[7]

On January 4, 2018, the Islanders re-signed Mayfield to a five-year, $7.25-million contract extension.[8]
