Refrigeration is not required, but is suggested before making the dip as it is best served cold.
Reduced cream is used to make "The Original Kiwi Dip", which uses it instead of sour cream in the recipe for French onion dip, along with Maggi-brand instant onion soup (another Nestlé brand). The recipe was invented by Rosemary Dempsey in the late 1950s or early 1960s at Nestlé's newly established test kitchen.
