New Advent is a website that provides online versions of various works connected with the Catholic Church.

In 1993, Kevin Knight, then a 26-year-old resident of Denver, Colorado, was inspired, during the visit of Pope John Paul II to that city for World Youth Day, to launch a project to publish the 1913 edition of the 1907-1912 Catholic Encyclopedia on the Internet. Knight founded the website New Advent to house the undertaking. Volunteers from the United States, Canada, France and Brazil helped in the transcription of the original material. The site went online in 1995 and transcription efforts finished in 1997.[1][2]

As of June 2018, New Advent contains 595 works, namely: the Catholic Encyclopedia; the Summa Theologica of Thomas Aquinas; 421 English translations of works of the Church Fathers;[3] a presentation in parallel columns of the entire Bible in the Greek Septuagint, the English Knox Bible, and the Latin Vulgate; and 171 papal encyclicals and other Church documents.[4][5][6]

Many of these documents are provided with hyperlinks to others that give further information on the topics touched on.

The New Advent homepage gives links to many other sites that provide news and commentary of Catholic interest.
