Je Cyrillic
Je (? ?; italics: ? ?) is a letter of the Cyrillic script, taken over from the Latin letter J.[1]
It commonly represents the palatal approximant /j/, like the pronunciation of ⟨y⟩ in "yes".
History
The Cyrillic letter ? was introduced in the 1818 Serbian dictionary of Vuk Stefanovi? Karad?i?, on the basis of the Latin letter j.[1] Karad?i? had previously used ? instead for the same sound, a usage he took from Dositej Obradovi?.[2]
