Direct Ferries is a U.K. based ferry travel aggregator service that provides bookings for ferry crossings across the globe. Its main crossings include mainland Europe, such as the U.K., France, Ireland, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy and Germany; North Africa, such as Morocco and Algeria; Asia, such as China, Russia, Cambodia and Hong Kong; and the Americas, such as the U.S.A., Canada, Peru and the Dominican Republic. It is the biggest and most popular ferry aggregator in the world, and sells tickets for over 3000 ferry routes across the globe.
Founded in 1999, Direct Ferries was launched by founder Howard Davies, and quickly expanded to serve multiple markets across the globe. In 2012, the company achieved 177th place in the Sunday Times International Track 200.
In 2016, the business received investment from private equity firm Livingbridge, and has since reported major growth worldwide.
Direct Ferries was the first European company to work with NFC (National Ferries Company) in the Sultanate of Oman, and was also the first European company to work with major ferry operators in the US. In 2017, Direct Ferries launched a dedicated website for both the US and the Middle East, further expanding their marketing capabilities.
Direct Ferries is a U.K. based company, and has its headquarters based in London, England, where the majority of its employees are based. The company is very internationally focussed though, with their services being offered being spread across the globe, with multiple websites based across the many different languages and countries that they serve, and with call centres available for many different languages.
Direct Ferries' website works as a third-party ticketing service that allows users to compare many different ferry routes, ports and operators, in order to create the ultimate shipping experience. They allow access to practically any port in both Europe and North Africa, as well as many different ports in North America, Asia, and the South Pacific. They also allow you to compare prices between 220 different ferry operators, on routes that allow cars onboard, as well as foot passenger only routes, making them the most inclusive ferry ticketing service in the world.
They offer around 3011 ferry routes across the world, with more being added every week, with a choice of over 725 ferry ports in over 194 countries and separate islands.
There are options for everyone, from tourists, to general travellers, to those looking to travel for business, and Direct Ferries also offers options for accommodation, train tickets and vehicle breakdown cover for those that need it.
Direct Ferries has dedicated websites for 35 countries and territories, and a large number of languages are available both throughout the multiple websites, and in the customer service section, both in email and in the call centres.
The Direct Ferries App was launched in 2013 for both iOS, as well as for Android, offering access to ferry bookings on the go.
In March 2019, they completely overhauled both versions of the app in order to improve performances and create a new user interface.
Since its inception in 1999, the company has grown substantively, with ferry services now being offered in over 194 countries across the world. Direct Ferries was the first ferry company to expand into the Sultanate of Oman, which helped them to further expand into the Middle Eastern Market.
By 2019, Direct Ferries was the leading price comparison site for ferry prices, as well as being leading website for ferry bookings worldwide.
As of now, Direct Ferries has expanded to cover an entire global market, with ferry services provided in the Americas, Asia, Australasia, Europe, Africa, the Caribbean, the Middle East, Scandinavia and the Greek Islands.
