The magnitude 7.1 earthquake that struck Ridgecrest on July 6 reminded all Californians that we live in earthquake country. Are you and your family prepared for the next major earthquake or disaster? The Pacifica Police Department and Pacifica Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) offer this 90-minute class focusing on what you can do to prepare yourself and your family for the next major earthquake. These same guidelines are applicable to many other types of disaster.
Following a major earthquake, emergency services may be overwhelmed. Emergency preparedness experts encourage everyone to be prepared to care for themselves for at least 72 hours following a major disaster or earthquake before assistance will be available. Is your family ready? Are you registered for SMC Alert to recieve local information following a disaster? Do you have supplies? Do you have a plan? This class will help you answer "yes" to these questions.
Topics covered will include:
Community Emergency Notification Systems - Having a Family Plan - Supply Storage - First Aid - Drop, Cover & Hold - Away-from-home Kit - Cash & Documents - Camping Out - Water & Food - Focus on Children - Learn not to burn
