This summer, join us for our "Race, Gender, and Jim Crow Lecture Series." These talks will focus on a variety of topics centering around race, gender, and Jim Crow. All lectures are in Kimball Hall and begin at 6:30pm. These events are FREE. On September 19th, Andre Vann will present on his research titled "A New Birth of Freedom: The Hawkins Family During the Jim Crow Era from Henderson, NC to Boston and Cambridge, MA." His talk will use visual images and genealogy to explore how members of Dr. Brown's family confronted segregation and Jim Crow, and the decisions made by them by migrating to New England during the 189s. Andre D Vann is the Coordinator of University Archives and an Instructor of Public History North Carolina Central University. He has authored and co-authored many books including " Sedalia and the Palmer Memorial Institute."
