SJSU Hammer Theatre Center
101 Paseo De San Antonio
San Jose, CA 95113
Lectures on design education will be held in the Hammer Theatre by professional lecturers and educators in visual design, typography, information design, UI & UX design, animation, and illustration. There will be 5 themed lectures, 15 lectures, and 2 round table discussions held over the three day conference. It will be a meaningful time to share opinions on practical design and design education through presentations focusing on research projects and examples.
Exhibitions will be held onsite at the Hammer Theatre in two formats. The first is the Education Exposition format, which showcases the participating educational institutions' curriculum, educational goals, and specialization cases. The second format is the exhibition of works by individual students and professors in the gallery. A book of all participating educational institutions and works will also be published.
For design schools, faculty, students, and young designers the conference will:
Provide valuable exposure for the school’s academic pedagogy and student work to an international audience of design community members.
Enable the students and faculty to benefit from the exchange of international design methodologies, influences and inspiration.
Elevate the profile of the school and increase the stature of the program within the international design education community.
Inspiration from leading professional designers’ global experience and trends.
Cultivate symbolic and dynamic exchanges between design education, design research, and industry through multicultural design aspects.

The first IDEEC (International Design Education Expo & Conference) will be held August 2019 in San Jose, the heart of Silicon Valley. Each member institution will host the event in turn once a year, during the summer. This year’s event will take place at Hammer Theatre in downtown San Jose, California near the San Jose State University campus. Hundreds of faculty and student groups from international universities are invited to display their design research and projects along with leading industry professional designers.
This event consists of three parts: a conference, exhibition, and workshop. San Jose State University is partnering with the Granshan Foundation (non-Latin typography research and practice organization) and AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts) to host this exciting free conference to share the value and diversity of design education with invited international educational institutions.
