WHO: The Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment, Recycle Colorado, 5280 Waste Solutions, and U.S. EPA Region 8 are co-hosting a deconstruction workshop to convene local deconstruction stakeholders for a full-day, collaborative event.
WHAT: DECONSTRUCTION: the systematic disassembly of a building or its parts in order to recover the maximum economic and environmental value of materials through reuse and recycling.
HOW: Participants will hear about the successes and lessons learned behind the city of Portland Oregon's mandatory deconstruction ordinance. Two panels each followed by group discussions will feature key Colorado deconstruction stakeholders and provide opportunities for participants to network and contribute to the overall discussion. The Deconstruction Life Cycle Panel will discuss the materials recovery hierarchy and how to direct design for disassembly and reuse, salvage and recycle materials in the built environment. The Deconstruction Contractors Panel will explore the opportunities and barriers facing deconstruction contractors in Colorado today.
