Through a unique partnership between Michigan Community Resources and the Detroit Free Press made possible by the Detroit Journalism Engagement Fund, residents will receive training and support in navigating Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. Workshop learnings will support greater access to public records as a tool for community growth and ensuring that local and state government agencies are held accountable to the public.
Each workshop includes:
Tutorial on how to make a successful FOIA request
Practical examples from journalists about obstacles to accessing public information
Discuss your FOIA questions with attorneys and Free Press reporters
