We at the Fresno County Genealogical Society have noticed that ours and many local societies around seem to be struggling with the same issues: how to grow and retain membership, provide for the needs of our local groups and do it all on a budget. We have been brainstorming for a while on how to meet these needs and have come up with a Societies Symposium- “Helping Societies Get and Stay Afloat”.
We’ve invited national speaker and writer Jean Wilcox Hibben, Ph.D., to speak and help facilitate working through strategies for keeping our societies thriving and vital. Jean is a retired college professor and former Board-Certified genealogist with a Master's Degree in speech communication and a PhD in folklore. She is also the staff trainer for the Corona Family History Center and President of both the Corona Genealogy Society and the So Calif Chapter of APG. Jean’s podcasts on social history are available at genjourneys.podbean.com. She has also done several seminars on growing and maintaining societies.
We hope you or members from your leadership team will consider joining us at our Societies Symposium, Saturday, August 3rd, 2019 from 9 am to 3 pm at the Woodward Park Library meeting room. We will have 4 sessions, lunch, and she has promised some interaction so be sure to bring your ideas! A $20 donation per person will help defray the costs of handouts and lunch.
