This is the FIRST-EVER statewide hotel outreach in the nation! Save Our Adolescence from Prostitution (SOAP) was launched in 2009 at a Calvary Temple & CAN event in Wayne, NJ featuring survivor, Theresa Flores. It has been to every Super Bowl and many large events since. CAN has been mobilizing NJ to do outreaches ever since! Each time, at least one of the missing children pictured on the missing children’s posters has been identified by hotel staff while volunteers were present. Consequently, children are often rescued by law enforcement during and after our hotel outreaches.
What happens at a CAN Statewide Hotel outreach?
Local CAN Abolition Advocates conduct simultaneous CAN Human Trafficking 101 trainings at each of the locations (trainings are appropriate for middle school and up). Attendees hear the story of how these outreaches started. Afterwards, teams are mobilized to go to every hotel and motel in the state with the following: posters with pictures of area missing children, packets of indicator information, and bars of hotel soap labelled with the national human trafficking hotline number. Teams deliver the supplies to hotel staff and report back, usually finishing in less than 3 hours total.
Who can be invovled?
Anyone can attend this free event. Seating is limited, so digital registration is required. Ages 16 & up can participate with the hotel outreach team (By registering, all Hotel Outreach Team Members assume all risk and liability). Flyer distribution, gifts-in-kind, sharing outreach information digitally & on social media, sponsoring and/or preparing boxes of soap are just a few ways individuals of all ages can be involved now. Many have sponsored $100 boxes of soap to honor their fathers for Father’s Day Weekend. Those fathers will be honored at all 5 locations.
Who are the organizers?
CAN, Church & Community Abolition Network, and the New Jersey Ministry Network (NJMN) are organizing this first-ever statewide hotel outreach in affiliation with The SOAP Project.
To sponsor one or more of the 100 boxes of soap needed, contact CAN at CANFREEDOM.ORG.
